​Troubleshooting of computer issues is one of the responsibilities that an IT professional needs to be doing. Such a person needs to understand common hardware and software related problems and ways to fix these.

If an IT professional doesn’t have this knowledge, then it is a good idea for that person to read some books, watch videos, tinker with computer equipment where it is safe to do it, preferably at home and not at the workplace.
