UTP cable

Commonly used are UTP network cables. UTP stands for Unshielded Twisted Pair. Each wire in a network cable has a pair. For example blue has a pair of white and blue. They are twisted with each other, this is why this cable is called a twisted pair cable.

Unshielded cable is because there is no shield that protects this cable from electric  magnetic influences.

For example coaxial cables have shields that protect them from electric magnetic influences.

UTP cables have maximum length for how long a single run of this cable will run. With increased distance electrical signal will degrade.

UTP cables also have maximum rated network speed rating.
