Reconnaissance phase of a vulnerability test

​Reconnaissance phase of a penetration test is the initial phase of this test, when information about systems is being gathered.

There are two methods of how the I formation can be gathered: passively or actively.

Passive reconnaissance means that the administration team of the organization is not providing any details to the penetration test team. Penetration team is on its own to find out details.

Active reconnaissance means that administration team will be providing details to the penetration team.
