History of PHP

PHP is one of the popular web development languages. It is well supported and has rich functionality. PHP originally was an abbreviation for Personal Home Pages, but that translation was replaced as PHP had matured. PHP is now an abbreviation for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. The word PHP in this abbreviation is a recursive word.

PHP programming language was first developed in early 1996.

PHP is a server-side programming language.
