False negative meaning

​False negative is a security related issue that is not reported by the vulnerability scanner.

False negatives may be reported by an outdated scanning software, or by performing a security scan of a device which network traffic is filtered by a firewall.

False negatives may give a false sense of security.

Updating security scanner on periodic basis is a good habit.
