TCP is underlying network protocol that allows two systems to communicate with each other.

TCP protocol had been used by other protocols to communicate. Examples of such protocols are HTTP, SMTP, FTP. This is not a full list of top level protocols, this list is here to illustrate that other commonly used protocols use TCP as underlying communication protocol.
