A hoax

​A hoax is deliberately untrue information. Hoaxes have different ways of how they can be delivered. They can be delivered as emails messages, they can be delivered as blog or social media posts.

The reasons of spreading hoaxes may vary. One of the reasons is to sway people opinion, financial gain, distribution of malware.

I only listed a few reasons, however there could be more reasons.

A person who received a hoax needs to verify such information from reputable sources.
