Biometric device

​A biometric device is an authentication device that uses specific body parts for authentication. For example a biometric device can use a fingerprint or an iris scan to identify which person uses a system.

A biometric device enhances authentication over password authentication, however biometric technology is costly and protection that it provides need to justify the cost of resources it protects.
