ASCII

​The term ASCII stands for American Standard for Information Interchange. ASCII defines standard way of representation of common characters and English alphabet. ASCII defines 128 characters.

Extended ASCII extends character set to 256. Instead of using 7 bits in ASCII, extended ASCII uses 8 bits.

To represent non-English alphabets and special characters Unicode standard is used.
