Eavesdropping
Eavesdropping is the process of capturing and analyzing network traffic.
Adequate access to networking equipment and knowledge of it is required to configure a port in a switch to capture all of the traffic there.
For large networks where more then a single switch is used to handle network traffic, there may be a need to have a special switch that is will handle this sort of traffic.
In addition of configuring a switch a specialized software needs to be used to analyze the traffic.
