Denial of service and distributed denial of service attacks (DOS and DDOS)

When a single system sends a specially crafted network message with a purpose of overwhelming destination system or an application in it, is called a Denial of Service attack,

When multiple systems participate in such an attack it is called a Distributed Denial of Service attack.
