A firewall

A computer firewall is a software or hardware product that blocks internet traffic and only allows certain traffic through. For example email or web traffic may be allowed.

Firewall can redirect traffic based on traffic patterns. For example mail traffic will go to a mail server and web traffic will go to a web server.
