HTML meta tag

HTML’s <meta> tag has an information what are the keywords and description for HTML page. I don’t know if meta tag is in use today. If content of HTML page is not clear of what it is, then how meta tag is going to help?

Another option for meta tag is to ignore this page from being indexed by search engines.

I don’t know if meta tag is in use today. If page is not clear about which content it has, then it must be updated.
